United Way Volunteers Rake Leaves
Wednesday, Oct 31, 2008
Over a series of two weeks, from October 31st to November 10th, 85 volunteers logged in over 250 hours raking leaves for the elderly, disabled, and those in extenuating circumstances in our community. This year, a total of 27 yards were raked, which is more than double the amount of yards that United Way volunteers raked last year.
The Grove City Area United Way would like to thank the following local companies and organizations for their volunteer efforts: East Main College Sunday School, Grove City Education Center, General Electric, George Junior Republic, and LDS missionaries. In addition, the Grove City Area United Way would like to thank the numerous organizations and groups from Grove City College that participated in Leaf Raking: Alpha Phi Omega, Helping Hands, Men of God, Mortarboard, Resident Assistants from Ketler and MEP Hallsl, Resident Directors, and South Hall residents.
In the Spring, the Grove City Area United Way will be organizing a Day of Caring. If you are interested in submitting a project or finding out about additional volunteer opportunities, please contact the Grove City Area United Way at 724-458-4527 or Click Here to email.
Spring Day of Caring
Saturday, April 26, 2008
The predicted rain held off and the skies were clear as over 300 volunteers from around the community flooded Fellowship Hall at East Main Presbyterian Church bright and early on Saturday morning April 26, 2008. The reason for the gathering? The Grove City Area United Way 2008 Spring Day of Caring. People from all over the Grove City area and surrounding communities came together as families, businesses, church, school, college and civic groups joined in the annual event. Following a delicious breakfast provided by Red Roo Fine Foods Catering, the volunteers were greeted by Amy Foley, Executive Director of the Grove City Area Untied Way, Tera Dent, Americorps Member and Karl Hart, Board Member. They were praised for their commitment to improving the lives of Grove City area residents by giving up their Saturday morning to help those in need. Volunteers were sent out to over 60 different project sites in the area – mostly to elderly and disabled residents’ homes where they performed such services as window and car washing, leaf raking and other yard work and cleaning out cupboards, garages and sheds.
